Design & Build

Central Indiana's Premium Lawn & Landscape Company

PMT Lawn & Landscape has been building residential outdoor spaces since 2015, serving Indianapolis and the surrounding areas. Call (317) 910-1257 and we will come look at the space, talk through what is possible, and put a real number on it, or request an estimate.

Most backyards do not fail because of taste. They fail because of water, grade, and access. A slope that dumps runoff at the foundation, a low spot that stays soggy into June, a patio door that opens onto a three foot drop, or a side yard too narrow to walk through comfortably will make any yard feel unusable no matter what gets planted in it. A transformation starts by fixing those things, then designing the living space on top of ground that finally works.

We take on whole-yard projects: grading and drainage correction, paver patios and walkways, seat walls and retaining walls, fire features, sod or seed, bed layout, and planting. One crew, one schedule, one company responsible for the finished result rather than three contractors pointing at each other when something does not line up.

The Process

How a Transformation Actually Goes

The unglamorous phases take the longest. Excavation, base compaction, and drainage runs are where a patio either lasts twenty years or starts settling in two, and we do not shortcut them to hit a faster install date.

Phasing is normal. Plenty of projects run the grading, drainage, and patio in year one, then come back for planting and lighting once the budget resets. We build the plan so a later phase does not mean tearing out what you already paid for.

  • On-site walkthrough to review grade, drainage, sun, and access
  • Concept and layout tied to how you plan to use the space
  • Line-item pricing so you can see what each element costs
  • Grading, drainage, and base work before anything visible goes in
  • Hardscape installation, then sod, beds, and planting
  • Final walkthrough plus care instructions for new plantings

What Goes In

The Pieces of a Finished Backyard

Hardscape sets the structure. Patios, walkways, steps, seat walls, and retaining walls define where the usable space is and hold the grade where it needs to be held. Details are covered on our hardscape installation page, including base depth, edge restraint, and joint stabilization.

Planting is what makes it feel finished. Layered beds, screening along a property line, ornamental trees placed for afternoon shade, and turf that actually establishes because the soil was prepped first. If your project is more about plantings and layout than construction, start with landscape design instead.

Drainage is the piece homeowners underestimate most. Downspout extensions, French drains, dry creek beds, and regrading away from the house are frequently the difference between a yard you use and a yard you avoid for a month after every heavy rain.

Budget

What These Projects Cost and Why

Cost is driven by square footage, material selection, how much dirt has to move, and how hard the site is to reach. A backyard with gate access wide enough for a skid steer is materially cheaper to build than one where every ton of base has to be wheeled through a side yard.

We quote line by line so tradeoffs are visible. If the patio needs to shrink by eighty square feet to keep the retaining wall in scope, you should be able to see that on paper and make the call yourself rather than getting a single lump sum with no way to adjust it. We do not publish prices we cannot stand behind sight unseen, and any number before a site visit would be a guess.

Once the project is done, keeping it looking new is straightforward. Most clients roll the finished yard into recurring landscape maintenance so the beds, mulch, and new plantings stay on a schedule through the establishment years. Fall leaf removal is part of that program so the new beds and patio are not buried under leaves their first winter.

The PMT Difference

A Lawn & Landscape Company You Can Trust

Homeowners, property managers, and facility teams across Johnson County keep working with us for the same handful of reasons.

01

We know Central Indiana ground

Heavy clay soil, cool-season turf, and Indiana's swing from wet spring to dry August all change how a property should be treated. We plan around the conditions we work in every day.

02

We treat the property like our own

Clean edges, blown-off walks, straightened bed lines. The details you would notice at your own house are the details we finish every visit with.

03

We show up on time and communicate

You know who is coming, when they are coming, and what happens next. From the first estimate through the last cleanup of the season.

Questions & Answers

Backyard Transformation FAQs

Most residential projects run one to three weeks on site once they start, depending on scope and weather. Design, permitting where required, and material lead times sit in front of that, so plan on several weeks between the first walkthrough and the first day of work.

Both, and we will not skip the first to get to the second. Building a patio over ground that holds water is how you end up rebuilding it. Grading, downspout routing, and subsurface drainage are scoped into the project from the start.

Yes, and it is common. We sequence phases so the heavy equipment work happens first and later phases build on it without disturbing finished areas.

There is always some impact on the access path. We protect what we can, keep traffic on a defined route, and repair the affected areas with soil and seed or sod as part of the project rather than leaving you with ruts.

Yes, both built-in and modular units, integrated into the patio layout so seating, clearance, and traffic flow work together instead of the fire feature being dropped in at the end.

We do. See commercial hardscape installation for courtyards, entry plazas, and gathering spaces built to handle public traffic.
