Hardscape work is the part of a landscape that either lasts twenty years or fails in three, and the difference is almost never the pavers on top. It is the base. Central Indiana clay holds water, and water that freezes under a patio will lift and separate it. We excavate to the depth the project calls for, compact in lifts, use the right aggregate, and build in drainage and edge restraint so the finished surface stays flat and tight through the freeze and thaw cycles that run from November through March.
The other half is planning the space so it actually gets used. A patio sized to the furniture you own, steps that land where people walk, a fire feature far enough from the house to be comfortable, and lighting so the space works after dark. Larger projects start with landscape design, where we take video and measurements and present a 2D plan before anything is ordered.

Most builds combine several of these. A patio usually needs a seat wall or a step, a slope usually needs a wall before it can hold a bed, and an outdoor kitchen needs the patio under it sized for people to move around the cook. We plan the whole thing at once so you are not paying to open the same ground twice.
Once the hardscape is in, the planting and grading work around it matters just as much. That is handled through landscape design and kept up through landscape maintenance. New patios and walks also stay cleaner and safer through the fall when leaf removal keeps wet leaves off the pavers.

Hardscape Installation FAQs
A straightforward patio is usually a few days on site once material is delivered. Add a seat wall, steps, lighting, or an outdoor kitchen and it stretches into a one to two week build. Design and material lead time is the longer part of the timeline, especially in spring.
Not if the base is right. Heaving comes from water sitting in a poorly compacted or poorly draining base and freezing. We excavate to depth, compact in lifts, and build drainage into the design specifically because of our freeze and thaw cycles.
We arrange utility locates on every dig, and we handle permitting where a project requires it, which is most common on retaining walls above a certain height and on anything near a drainage easement.
Usually yes. We pull material samples so you can see them against the brick or siding in daylight before ordering. Exact matches on older discontinued pavers are not always possible, in which case we design a deliberate transition instead of a near miss.
Yes, and it is the better way to do it. Beds, plantings, edging, and lighting are planned with the hardscape through landscape design so the finished yard reads as one project.
